The Church has celebrated a number of Saints this week already. On Monday, Saint Justin was in the spotlight. On Tuesday, it was Saints Marcellinus and Peter, and yesterday Saint Charles Lwanga and his 21 companions, Ugandans who had been put to death by the reigning king were remembered in the prayer of the Church.
Among these venerables, who are remembered by all the disciples on the Way, I also remember today the heroic deeds of discipleship done, and still being done by Reverend James Myles Sharpe. The oldest priest in the diocese, he is a wonderful gift to me and to all those who have the pleasure of knowing him - and he knows an awful lot of people. Today, Father Sharpe celebrates his 54th anniversary of presbyteral ordination. He's celebrating at home in Sudbury, but I'm right there with him in prayer and spirit.
Ad moltos annos!
