Letter of His Excellency, Richard Smith
Archbishop of Edmonton and President of the CCCB
addressed to His Eminence, Sean Patrick Cardinal O'Malley, OFM Cap

His Eminence Sean Patrick Cardinal O'Malley, OFM Cap
Archbishop of Boston

Your Eminence,

In the wake of the terrible bombings that occurred during the Boston marathon, I express on behalf of the Bishops and faithful of Canada our heartfelt sorrow at the loss of life and serious injury caused by this senseless act.  Please be assured of our fraternal support as you reach out with your clergy and pastoral workers to care for those impacted by this horror.  In our prayer, we embrace the victims and their families, and indeed all the people of your great city.

In this Easter season, the Church proclaims with deep conviction the triumph of the light of Christ over the darkness of sin.  May this truth take deep root now in the hearts of all affected by this tragedy, and abide as the wellspring of sure hope.

With the assurance of my prayers for God's blessing on your work and witness, I remain,
Fraternally yours in Our Lord,

+Richard W. Smith
Archbishop of Edmonton and
President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops
