This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis received in private Audience, His Eminence, Angelo Cardinal Amato, SDB, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. During their meeting, the Holy Father heard reports from His Eminence and inscribed three names in the catalogue of Saints, two of which have Canadian ties:
François de Laval was born in Montigny-sur-Avre (France) on April 20, 1623 and died in Quebec City (Canada) on May 6, 1708; and

Marie de l'Incarnation (who was baptized Marie Guyart), the Founder of the Ursuline Monastery in Quebec City, who was born in Tours (France) on October 28, 1599 and died in Quebec City (Canada) on April 30, 1672.
In addition, His Holiness approved the heroic virtues (the first official step along the path of the Cause of Sainthood) of the Servant of God Marie Clément Staub (baptized Joseph Staub), a Priest of the Congregation of Augustinians of the Assumption, Founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joan of Arc, born in Kaysersberg (Alsace Lorena, France) on June 2, 1876 and died in Sillery (Quebec, Canada) on May 16, 1936.
Details about the Canonization ceremonies for these two new Saints, and for Saint José of Anchieta who was also inscribed in the catalogue of Saints today will be forthcoming.
