This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has named a new Bishop for the Diocese of Victoria (British Columbia), in the person of His Excellency, Gary Gordon.
The newly-appointed shepherd of Victoria was born in Burnaby, British Columbia on June 10, 1957.
He completed studies in preparation for priesthood at the Seminary of Christ the King in Mission (BC); at Saint Jerome's College on the campus of the University of Waterloo (ON), and at Saint Peter's Seminary in London (ON). On May 22, 1982, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Vancouver.
After ordination to the priesthood, he served in various parishes in Vancouver, Chilliwack and Mission. He also served as chaplain to the imprisoned for a period of 22 years, as Episcopal delegate for the pastoral needs of the imprisoned and as Dean of the pastoral region of Fraser Valley East.
On January 5, 2006, he was named Bishop of Whitehorse (NWT) and was ordained a bishop on March 22 of that same year.
As part of the Episcopal Conference of Canada, Bishop Gordon serves as ponens for the pastoral care of the imprisoned.
