Canadian Bishops at the Synod on the Family

During the first week of the 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Family, religious and secular media coverage has already been extensive, especially for the Canadian Bishops who are members of the Synod. The office for media relations of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has prepared a summary with links to news stories and reports citing the Bishops from Canada.

The Bishops of Canada who are participating in the Synod are:

  • His Eminence Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec and Primate of the Church in Canada;
  • His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto;
  • Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau;
  • Most Reverend Noël Simard, Bishop of Valleyfield; and
  • Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton.

Three of them have been elected to moderate or to furnish reports for the discussion groups (Circuli Minores):

  • Cardinal Collins is moderator of an English-language discussion group;
  • Cardinal Lacroix is moderator of a French-language discussion group, and
  • Archbishop Durocher the relator of a French-language discussion group.
