Zambia at the Vatican

This morning at the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father, Pope Francis received in audience the President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency, Mister Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who subsequently met with His Eminence, Pietro Cardinal Parolin, Secretary of State and His Excellency, Paul Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.

During the cordial dialogue, the good relationship currently existing between the Holy See and the Republic of Zambia was recalled.  Mention was also made of the contribution of the Catholic Church through her educational, social and health related institutions as well as references to the collaboration in the fight against poverty and social inequalities, and the promotion of a peaceful social and religious coexistence through a culture of dialogue and encounter.  The conversation also touched on issues of common interest, among which were migration, climate change and care for the environment.

Finally, reference was made to the international situation, with special attention to the conflicts in some areas of Africa and the commitment of the country to the peace process in the region.
