Today, the Holy Father sent a telegram of condolence for the death of Cardinal Gilberto Austoni which took place yesterday. Cardinal Austoni is the Prefect emeritus of the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. The telegram was sent to the late Cardinal's niece.

Having learned the sad news of the death of your beloved uncle, Cardinal Gilberto Agustoni, I wish to express to you and to your family my sharing in mourning along with all those who knew and esteemed the late Cardinal who, for many years was a sincere and diligent collaborator in the Holy See, especially as Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, offering a zealous priestly witness of faithfulness to the gospel.
While offering fervent prayers to the Lord Jesus that, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, He may grant to the deceased Cardinal the eternal reward promised to his faithful disciples, I willingly send my Apostolic benediction to you, to the religious Sisters of Saint Mary of Leuca who cared for him, and to all those who are saddened by his departure.
