A new Shepherd for Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière

This morning, the Holy Father accepted the resignation from pastoral governance of the Diocese of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière (Quebec, Canada) offered by His Excellency, Yvon Joseph Moreau, OCSO.

The Pope has appointed a new Bishop for the Diocese of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière in the person of Reverend Father Pierre Goudreault, a priest of the Diocese of Rouyn-Noranda (Quebec, Canada).  Father Goudreault has, most recently, been serving as the Moderator of the Pastoral grouping known as Sainte-Trinité.

Meet His Excellency, Pierre Goudreault
Bishop-elect of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière

Reverend Pierre Goudreault was born on 27 May 1963 in Rouyn-Noranda (Quebec).  He completed primary studies at Sainte-Bernadette school and at Mère Brugère school in Rouyn-Noranda and secondary studies at the École Paul VI and at the Polyvalente Iberville.  He then registered in a programme of human and mathematical sciences offered at the local CEGEP (a professional pre-university level school).

Having entered the seminary and studied Philosophy and Theology at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, he was ordained a priest on 18 May 1991.  He obtained a Doctorate in Theology from Saint Paul University in Ottawa in 1997 and during that same period, served as a member of the formation group at Saint Paul Seminary, attached to that same University.

His pastoral ministry included service as parochial vicar (associate pastor) and as Pastor in various locations.  After a year of formation at the University of Paris (2008) he was appointed as Moderator of the Pastoral grouping of Sainte-Trinité located in Rouyn-Noranda.

In addition, he served as a member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council (1997-2004) and as a member of the College of Consultors (1997-2008).  From 2004 until the present moment, he served as Diocesan Animator of faith-sharing groups; in 2005, he was appointed as a companion to seminarians and, since 2006, he has served as coordinator of pastoral leadership programmes.
