New Bishop for MacKenzie-Fort Smith

This morning, the Holy Father has appointed a new Bishop for the Diocese of MacKenzie-Fort Smith (NWT) in the person of Reverend Father Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R.  Most recently, he has been serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Victory in Inuvik (NWT).


Meet Bishop-elect Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R.

Reverend Father Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R. was born on 18 February 1967 in Edmonton, Alberta.  Having grown up in Grand Prairie, AB, Father Hansen attended Saint Gerard's School, Saint Patrick's School and Saint Joseph's High School.  He earned a Bachelor's degree at the University of Alberta (1997) before undertaking studies in Philosophy and Theology at Saint Michael's College in Toronto which granted him a Master of Divinity (2003).

In Saint Joseph's parish in Grand Prairie, AB, which is a Redemptorist parish, Father Hansen met this Congregation.  He made his first profession of vows in 1998 and perpetual vows in 2002.

He was ordained a priest on 24 April 2004.

After his ordination, from 2004 to 2005, he served as Associate Pastor of Saint Theresa, in the diocese of Saint John's (NF).  Afterwards, from 2005-2008, while serving as Associate Pastor of Saint Patrick (Toronto), he was named Director of Formation for the Redemptorists.  In 2008, he was given responsibility for the Out of the Cold programme before he was appointed Pastor of Saint Mary in Saskatoon (SK), a post he held until 2015.  In Saskatoon, Father Hansen was appointed as Dean for the Western Zone and a Member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council.

In 2015, he began service as Pastor of Our Lady of Victory in Inuvik, in the Diocese of MacKenzie-Fort Smith (NWT).
