Merger in Northern Ontario

This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has ordered the merger of the Dioceses of Hearst and Moosonee, located in Northern Ontario (Canada).  Effective today, the territory formerly served by those two Dioceses will form a new Diocese known as Hearst-Moosonee and will belong to the Ecclesiastical Province of Ottawa.

The Holy Father has appointed His Excellency, Robert O. Bourgon, who has until now served as Bishop of Hearst and Apostolic Administrator of Moosonee as the first Bishop of this newly-formed Diocese.
