Speaking with journalists en route

Yesterday morning, aboard the flight to Panama on the occasion of the XXXIV World Youth Day, the Holy Father, Pope Francis - as is his custom - took some time to meet the journalists who are accompanying him on this voyage.

Introduced by a few words offered by the interim Director of the Holy See Press Centre, Alessandro Gisotti, the Pope offered a few words to the journalists.

Press Conference granted by His Holiness, Pope Francis
aboard the flight from Rome to Panama

Monsignor Mauricio Rueda:
Good morning.  I have the pleasure of introducing the Holy See's interim spokesperson, Doctor Alessandro Gisotti.  I am sure that many of you already know him.  Now, on his first voyage as spokesperson, let us welcome him.

Alessandro Gisotti
Holy Father, good morning.  Here we are, on this occasion.  Good morning to all of you and good morning to all our colleagues from Panama who are travelling with us.  Holy Father, you are crossing the Atlantic again, just as you did on your first International voyage for the World Youth Days.  And the Pope's youth are waiting in Panama, the youth of the world!  Please, Holy Father ...

Pope Francis
Good morning!  It is a pleasure to be here with you.  I thank you very much for coming along and I also want to thank you ahead of time for the work that you will do.

Today's flight is the first one (referring to his International trips) without the presence of a colleague who I loved very much: Alexej Bukalov, from Tass.  He was a man of great humanism, the humanism that is not afraid of mankind, even at the lowest level, and he was not afraid of the divine, even at the highest level.  A man who was able to write syntheses in the style of Dostojevski ... I am sure that you are all missing him.  Now, I invite you to observe a moment of silence and then we will pray for him.  Our Father .... Requiem aeternam ...

And now, I will begin this voyage by greeting all of you.
