Pope to visit the Velletri Prison

The Holy See Press Centre announced this morning that on Thursday, 18 April 2019, at 4:30pm local time (10:30am EDT), the Holy Father, Pope Francis will pay a visit to the Velletri Prison in Rome where he will celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper.

The visit will include a gathering with prisoners, personnel and Police officers who work at the prison and the Eucharistic celebration with the rite of the washing of the feet of twelve of the prisoners.

Departure by car from the Casa Santa Marta

4:30pm
Arrival at the Velletri Prison
The Holy Father will be welcomed by Doctor Maria Donata Iannantuono, Director of the prison; Doctor Pia Palmeri, Associate Director of the prison; Doctor Maria Luisa Abbossida, Commander of the Prison Police; and Father Franco Diamante, Prison Chaplain.

The Holy Father will greet representatives of the prison personnel, the Police and some of the prisoners.  He will then go to the chapel to vest for the liturgical celebration.

5:00pm
In the theatre Salon, the Holy Father will celebrate Mass, including the rite of the washing of feet.  He will also share his homily with those who are in attendance.

At the conclusion of the celebration, the Director of the prison will offer a few words and there will be an exchange of gifts.

7:00pm
The Holy Father will leave the prison and return to the Vatican.
