Ukraine at the Vatican

Today, the Holy Father, Pope Francis received in audience His Excellency, Mister Vlodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.  Subsequently, President Zelensky met with His Eminence, Pietro Parolin, the Cardinal Secretary of State, and with His Excellency, Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.

The meetings which took place within the Secretariat of State were mainly dedicated to the humanitarian situation and seeking peace in the context of the conflict which, since 2014, continues in Ukraine.  In this regard, there is a shared hope that all parties involved may demonstrate sensitivity toward the needs of the people, the first victims of violence, as well as ongoing commitment and consistency in dialogue.

Issues related to bilateral cooperation and the contribution of the Catholic Church, present in the country in various rites, were also examined.
