Telegram of Condolence
for the death of Cardinal Bernard Agré

His Eminence, Cardinal Jean-Pierre Kutwa
Archbishop of Abidjan
Abidjan

Having learned the sad news of the death of Cardinal Bernard Agré, Archbishop emeritus of Abidjan, I wish to express my closeness in prayer to the Pastors and the faithful of the Ivory Coast as well as to the family and friends of His Eminence.  I pray that the Lord will welcome this faithful Pastor into the fullness of light and peace, since throughout his long and fruitful episcopate, he served the Church with faith and generosity as Bishop of Man and the first Bishop of Yamoussoukro, before being appointed as Archbishop of Abidjan.  Fervently committed to his pastoral duties, the deceased Cardinal showed himself to be a man of God, passionate about proclaiming the Gospel and about the human and spiritual development of all peoples.  As a pledge of comfort, I impart a special Apostolic Blessing to you, as well as to the bishops of the Ivory Coast, the deceased Cardinal's family members and friends, the faithful of the dioceses which he served and to all those who will participate at the celebration of his funeral Mass.

Francis
