Condolences to Cairo

Today, the Cardinal Secretary of State sent a telegram to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt following the bombing that took place today in Cairo against the Italian Consolate.

Telegram of the Cardinal Secretary of State

To His Excellency
Mister Abdel Fatteh Al Sisi
President of the Arab Republic of Egypt

With great concern, His Holiness, Pope Francis learned of the attack which took place today in Cairo against the Italian Consulate, following a wave of other such attacks which have already cost the lives of many other people.  Pope Francis firmly condemns such acts.  He calls upon political and religious leaders at all levels to unite their efforts in order to combat with ever growing determination the scourge of terrorism and promote agreement and solidarity.  The Pope expresses his heartfelt compassion for the families who have been affected and for all people who have been affected by such blind violence, assuring you all of his prayer.  As a sign of consolation, he implores the abundance of divine blessings on all Egyptian people.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State
