Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval, C.Ss.R., Archbishop emeritus of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) died last night. This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis sent a telegram of condolence to the current Archbishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, His Excellency, Sergio Alfredo Gualberti Calandrina.

Profoundly saddened by the death of the dear Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval, Archbishop emeritus of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, I express my deepest condolences to the pastors, the clergy and the faithful of that particular church, joining with all of you in fervent prayer that the Lord may grant his peace to him who by the light of faith and the strength of hope remained faithful to the ministry entrusted to him, and who with generosity and courage, gave his life in service to the gospel, to justice and to peace.
In this time of unavoidable human suffering, praying that the Lord who comes in mystery will give you hope, I invoke the maternal intercession of the Virgin Mary and I willingly impart my Apostolic blessing to all those who mourn his loss.
