This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has released a Video message for the launch of the Educational Pact, a global event that will take place on Thursday 14 May 2020 which will have as its theme Reconstructing the global educational pact:
Dear friends,
In my encyclical Laudato Si', I invited all people to work together to care for our common home.
To understand how urgent the challenge before us is, we must focus on education, which opens our minds and hearts to a wider and deeper understanding of reality.
We need a global educational pact that educates us about universal solidarity, a new humanism.
This is why I promoted a world event to be held on May 14th 2020.
In a moment of extreme fragmentation, extreme contrast, there is a need to combine efforts, to give birth to an educational alliance to train mature people who are capable of living in society and for society.
However, every change needs an educational journey. We cannot make a change without educating toward that change.
An African proverb states that an entire village is needed to educate a child. But we must build this village ... together, to educate children, to educate the future.
And we must clear the ground of discrimination, as I argued in the document I recently signed with the Great Imam of Al-Azhar in Abu Dhabi.
We must ensure that this village makes everyone aware of what unites people and all the components of the human person; study and life; generations; teachers and students, family and civil society with its political expressions, productive expressions, entrepreneurial expressions and how it is lived in solidarity.
We must base educational processes on the awareness that everything in the world is intimately connected and we need to find other ways of understanding the economy, politics, growth and progress.
We need to have the courage to form people who are willing to serve the community.
This is why I wish to meet you in Rome: to promote together and activate this educational pact.
Together with you, I appeal to all the public personalities who are already engaged in the delicate education sector of the new generations worldwide. I trust they won't back out.
Let's try together to find solutions, start transformation processes, without fear. I invite each of you to be the promotors of this alliance.
