Inside the cathedral

From the doors of this place of worship, we were ushered inside and conducted through the halls of Spain's first Cathedral.  Even today, it functions as a place for celebrations and prayer.  From this place of worship, Braulio Rodriguez Plaza, the current Archbishop of Toledo leads the Catholic people in their faith journey.  What a beautiful place from which to preside.  The towers of this cathedral literally tower over the rest of the city.

Like most of the Spanish cathedrals, this one is characterized by a choir which is located in the middle of the church, effectively allowing the choirsters to envelop the entire church with their music.  Here is an example of the choir stalls which await the choristers who still sing in this place of worship.

Within the choir of this cathedral stands the statue of the smiling Virgin who holds her divine child.

As we gathered for the celebration of Mass in the chapel of St. Peter, we discovered that there was a wedding being celebrated in a neighbouring chapel, complete with a soloist and musicians to add to the joy of the occasion.  When our Eucharistic celebration was complete, we joined in the celebration of the wedding as we joined the flow of guests who were leaving the neighbouring chapel and making their way out the same door where we had entered the church, and where we too were exiting before the doors were closed for the night.
