At the conclusion of the Solemn Mass for Palm Sunday, Pope Francis led the recitation of the Angelus. In brief remarks ahead of the Marian prayer, the Holy Father greeted all those taking part in the ceremony, including those watching and listening by means of television, radio, or other means of communication.
I greet all of you who have participated in this celebration and those who are united with us by television, radio and other means of communication.
Today, we celebrate the 31st World Youth Day, which will conclude at the end of July with the great world Meeting in Krakow. The theme is Blessed are the merciful, for they will find mercy (Mt 5:7). My special greetings are offered to the young people who are here, and extend to all the youth throughout the world. I hope that many of you will be able to come to Krakow, the country of Saint John Paul II, who began the World Youth Days. To his intercession, let us confide these final months of preparation for our pilgrimage which, during the Holy Year of Mercy, will be the Jubilee of Youth at the level of the universal Church.
Many young volunteers from Krakow are here with us. Returning to Poland, take the palms and olive branches, gathered in Jerusalem, Assisi and Montecassino with you. They have been blessed today in this Square; may they be an invitation to cultivate proposals for peace, reconciliation and fraternity. Thank you for this beautiful initiative; go forward with courage!
And now, let us pray to the Virgin Mary, that she may help us to live the coming Holy Week with spiritual intensity.
