I am coming to you

In preparation for the apostolic voyage to Korea later this week to participate in the 6th Asian Youth Day celebrations, the Holy Father prepared a video message which was published yesterday and transmitted by KBS in Korea.

Text of the Video Message
addressed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis
to participants at the Asian Youth Day in Korea

Dear brothers and sisters!

In a few days, God willing, I will be with you in Korea.  Thank you in advance for your welcome; I ask you to pray together for me, that this apostolic voyage will bear good fruit for the Church and for Korean society.

Arise, shine! (Is 60:1): with these words, which the prophet addressed in Jerusalem, I turn to you.  It is the Lord who invites you to welcome his light, to make room for it in your heart and to reflect it in lives filled with faith, resplendent in love and filled with the joy of the gospel.

As you know, I am coming to take part in the Sixth Asian Youth Day.  To youth who are present, I am coming to bring the Lord's invitation: Youth of Asia, arise!  The glory of the martyrs shines upon you.  The light of the risen Christ shines like a mirror on the witness of Paul Yun Ji-chung and his 123 companions, all of whom are martyrs for the faith, who I will declare Blessed in Seoul on August 16.

Young people are bearers of hope and of energy for the future; but they are also victims of the moral and spiritual crises of our times.  This is why I want to announce to them and to all people the only name in which we can be saved: Jesus, the Lord.

Dear Korean brothers and sisters, faith in Christ has put down deep roots in your land and has borne fruit in abundance.  The elderly are the custodians of this inheritance: without them, youth would be deprived of their memory.  The meeting of the elderly and the youth is an assurance of the journey of a people, and the Church is the great family in which we are all brothers in Christ.  In his name, I am coming to you, in the joy of sharing with you the Gospel of love and of hope.

May the Lord bless you and the Virgin Mary protect you.
