Greetings for the Waldensian-Methodist Table

Yesterday, in Torre Pelice (Turin, Italy), the annual Synod of the Valdensian and Methodist Table began.  The Holy Father, Pope Francis sent a Message to the Bishop of Pinerolo, His Excellency, Pier Giorgio Debernardi, through the following telegram which was signed by the Cardinal Secretary of State.

Message of His Holiness, Pope Francis
for the Waldensian-Methodist Table meeting

To His Excellency, the Most Reverend
Pier Giorgio de Bernardi
Bishop of Pinerolo

His Holiness, Pope Francis, as a sign of his spiritual closeness, willingly sends to the participants taking part in the Synod of the Waldensian-Methodist Church, his cordial greetings and good wishes.  He assures you of a particular remembrance in prayer and invokes from the Lord the gift of walking with sincerity of heart toward full communion in order to bear witness to Christ for the sake of all humanity, journeying together toward the encounter with men and women of our day in order to pass on to them the heart of the gospel.

The Holy Father hopes that the differences between Catholics and Waldensians will not stop us from finding ways to collaborate in our efforts to evangelize and to be of service to the poor, to the sick, to migrants and to caring for creation.

With these wishes, the Pope calls upon the Holy Spirit to help us live the communion that precedes every contrast and to obtain for us from the Lord His mercy and His peace.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State of His Holiness
