Greeting the journalists

While aboard the flight yesterday that took him from Rome to Abu Dhabi, the Holy Father met - as he usually does - with the journalists who are accompanying him on this voyage.

Following a few introductory words which were offered by the interim Director of the Holy See Press Centre, Alessandro Gisotti, the Pope offered a few words to the journalists.

Greetings of the Holy Father, Pope Francis
addressed to journalists aboard
the flight to Abu Dhabi (UAE)

Pope Francis
Good afternoon to all of you, happy Sunday!

Alessandro Gisotti
Good afternoon Holy Father, good afternoon to all of you.  Welcome on board to the colleagues from Abu Dhabi for the Emirates - Salam aleikum.

Holy Father, it seems that it was just yesterday - it almost was yesterday - that we were on a flight coming back from Panama.  Among the many expressions of welcome there, one in particular, the welcome expressed by the Muslim community in Panama said: Welcome, Pope Francis, a man of peace.  And with this spirit, I believe they are awaiting your arrival in the Emirates, as a man of peace who is coming to strengthen the peace talks, dialogue and fraternity, human fraternity.  Please, Holy Father ...

Pope Francis
Thank you for your company.  This will be a short trip, a brief one.

Today, this morning I received the news that it was raining in Abu Dhabi: this - in that place - is considered a blessing.  Let us hope that everything will go like that.  Thank you very much.  I have brought with me copies of an icon that was written in the Monastery of Bose, for you to take home with you.  It is about the theme of dialogue between the old and the young (the icon depicts a young monk carrying an elderly monk on his shoulders).  I love this image very much, and I think that this is a challenge for our time.  Paolo Ruffini will give you this icon.  Thank you.
