Condolences to Columbia

This morning, the Vatican Press Centre published the text of a telegram of condolences for the victims of a serious accident which occurred this past Sunday in the vicinity of FundaciĆ³n (Columbia), sent in the name of the Holy Father to the Bishop of Santa Marta, His Excellency, Ugo Eugenio Puccini Banfi, by the Cardinal Secretary of State, His Eminence, Pietro Parolin:

Pope Francis, deeply distressed to have heard the sad news of a serious accident which occurred in the town of FundaciĆ³n, which has claimed many victims including many children, asks you the kindness of your assistance to furnish any aid possible to those affected by this most unfortunate mishap.

In his prayer, the Pope fervently asks God to grant eternal rest to those who have died as a result of this tragedy, and wishes to express through your Excellency, his sentiments of deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased, as well as the hope and comfort of swift recovery to full health for all those who were wounded.

Very much united in prayer with those affected by this incident, the Holy Father implores abundant divine blessings on the sons and daughters of those beloved lands.
