Condolences of His Holiness, Pope Francis
sent to the Patriarch of Venice

To His Excellency, Francesco Moraglia
Patriarch of Venice
San Marco, 320/A
30124 Venice

Have learned with sadness, the news of the death of Cardinal Marco Ce, I wish to express to you and to the entire diocesan community, as well as to the family of that accomplished servant and to all those who knew and held him in great esteem, my profound participation in their suffering, as I think affectionately of this dear brother who joyfully served the gospel, and tenderly loved the Church.

I remember with gratitude his untiring and abundant work first in his diocese of origin and then in Bologna beside Cardinal Poma, followed by his attentive work with Catholic Action Italy, and finally as the wise pastor of the Church of Venice.  I also remember the generous service he gave to the promoting the Word of God by preaching at various Spiritual reflection days with priests and with the youth, as well as his fervent commitment to the promotion of an authentic liturgical spirit.

I raise fervent prayers to the Lord, asking that through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, He may welcome this faithful son, servant and devoted pastor in the heavenly Jerusalem, and I willingly impart the comfort of my Apostolic Blessing to all those who are saddened by his death.

Francis
