Council of Cardinals at work

The Council of Cardinals met once again this week for three days: Monday, 17 February; Tuesday, 18 February and Wednesday, 19 February.  Cardinals Pietro Parolin, Óscar A. Rodríguez Maradiaga, S.D.B., Reinhard Marx, Seán Patrick O’Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Giuseppe Bertello and Oswald Gracias were in attendance. Also present were the Secretary of the Council, His Excellency, Marcello Semeraro, and the Associate Secretary, His Excellency, Marco Mellino.

The Holy Father participated in the working sessions with the exception of this morning's session during which he participated in the General Audience.

The final meeting of this session took place this afternoon, in the presence of Pope Francis.

The text of the new Apostolic Constitution, which has been reworked in the light of contributions offered by the various Dicasteries of the Roman Curia and some experts, was the object of deeper reading and revision by the members of the Council, who also took into account some suggestions which have been received in recent weeks from the Cardinals who are resident in Rome who had not yet had the opportunity to submit their suggestions.

The reading of the text will continue during the next session which will take place in April 2020.
