One year after the Document on Human Fraternity

The Holy Father, Pope Francis has sent a video message to those who are participating in a special ceremony that took place today in Abu Dhabi to mark the first anniversary of the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity.

Video Message of the Holy Father, Pope Francis

I greet all of you who are present and I greet in a special way all the people who, in all humanity, help their poor, sick, persecuted and weakened brothers, regardless of the religion, colour or race you belong to.

One year ago, my brother, the Grand Imam, Doctor Ahmad al-Tayyib, Imam of Al-Azhar, and I signed a document on human fraternity in the beloved capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.  Today, we celebrate the first anniversary of this great humanitarian event, hoping for a better future for all humanity, a future that is free of hatred, rancour, extremism and terrorism, where the values of peace, love and fraternity prevail.

Today, on this first anniversary, I express my appreciation for the support that has been offered by the United Arab Emirates toward the work of the Supreme Committee for Human Fraternity.  Therefore, I thank the Abrahamic House for the initiative, and for the announcement of the prize for human fraternity.

I am happy to be able to participate in this moment as we present to the world the International Prize for Human Fraternity, so that all the virtuous models of men and women who throughout the world embody love through their actions and their sacrifices made for others are encouraged, regardless of their differences in religions or ethnic or cultural background, and I ask Almighty God to bless every effort that benefits the good of humanity and helps us all to move forward in fraternity.

Thank you.
