Pope praying for victims in Genoa

A marine accident reminiscent of the Costa Concordia disaster which occurred last year has left at least seven persons dead and two others still missing.  An Italian cargo ship, the Joly Nero, collapsed a 164-foot concrete glass tower when it crashed on Tuesday of this week around 11:00pm local time.

Having been informed about the tragedy, the Holy Father, Pope Francis sent a telegram today expressing his sorrow.

In the telegram, sent by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Pope expressed his heartfelt empathy with the city of Genoa, and assured his fervent prayers for those who were tragically killed in the accident.

Pope Francis also invokes the Lord for a quick recovery for those injured and entrusts all those affected by the event to the protection of the Madonna of La Guardia.
