Bulgaria - Mascedonia

This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis left the Apostolic Nunciature in Sofia and travelled by car to the International airport where there was a departure ceremony held to mark his final minutes in Bulgaria.

Upon his arrival at the airport, the Pope was welcomed - at the entrance to the VIP Lounge - by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mister Boyko Borisov.  After a brief meeting, the Holy Father boarded an Alitalia A321 and departed - at 8:33am local time (1:33am EDT) for the flight to Skopje (North Macedonia).

Immediately following the departure of the aircraft from Sofia, the Holy Father sent the following telegram to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mister Rumen Radev.

His Excellency, Rumen Radev
President of the Republic of Bulgaria

As I depart from Bulgaria to continue my Apostolic journey to North Macedonia, I renew my deep appreciation to Your Excellency, the government and the people of Bulgaria for your warm welcome and generous hospitality.  Offering the assurance of my prayers for peace and harmony in the nation, I invoke upon all of you abundant divine blessings.
