A day before the concert

At 9:00am today, in the Atrium of the Paul VI Hall, the Holy Father, Pope Francis met with organizers and sponsors of the Concert for the Poor.

This event, which will take place tomorrow at 6:00pm in the Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, was organized in order to support the Pope's charitable works and is sponsored by the Apostolic Elimosiniere (the office responsible for the Pope's charitable work), by the Pontifical Council for Culture, by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization and by the San Matteo Foundation in memory of Cardinal Van Thuân.

Greetings of the Holy Father, Pope Francis
for the organizers of the Concert for the Poor

Good morning to all of you and thank you for this visit.  I thank you all for everything that you have done, have done and are doing for this concert that unites us.  Music has the ability to unite our souls and to unite us with the Lord, to carry us ... to the horizon and also to transport us vertically, on high, even to free us from our suffering.  Even sad music, we think of so many lamenting adagios, even they can help us in difficult moments.

Thank you all so very much ... it will be good for all of us who are surrounded by material things that always draw us down, and even sometimes takes away our joy.  As believers, we have the joy of a Father who loves us all and the joy of being able to spend time together with others.  However, you are going to sow this joy through this concert.  It will be a concert to sow joy, not only a momentary happiness, no: what is sown remains with us in our souls and makes everyone happy.  Thank you for all the good that you are doing, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
