A new shepherd for Rimouski

The Holy Father, Pope Francis has appointed His Excellency, Denis Grondin, until now titular Bishop of Campli and Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec (Canada) as Metropolitan Archbishop of Rimouski (Canada).


His Excellency, Denis Grondin was born in Rimouski (Quebec) on October 23, 1954.

He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Quebec on May 21, 1989, where he exercised his pastoral ministry as Associate pastor of various parishes in the Archdiocese and at the same time, as coordinator of pastoral activities at Sacred Heart Catholic School (Chûtes-de-la-Chaudière) and Marie-Dominique Catholic School (Saint-Romuald).

In 1999, he was appointed Administrator of the parish of Notre-Dame-de-l’Espérance and from 2001 to 2007, he was a member of the in solidum parish team at Sacré-Coeur-de-Jésus (Point-au-Pic), Notre-Dame-des-Monts, Saint-Etienne (La Malbaie), Saint-Irénée (Cap-à-l’Aigle), Saint-Raphaël (Clermont), Saint-Philippe, Saint-Agnès and Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs.

In 2005, he was named Coordinator of pastoral activities at the Centre for Health and Social Services in Charlevoix which also included the hospital at Malbaie as of 2009; from 2007 to 2011, he served as pastor of Saint-Siméon's parish.  He was named pastor of 10 parishes within the region of Charlevoix in the Archdiocese of Quebec.

On December 12, 2011, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec and on February 25, 2012, he received episcopal consecration at the hands of Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix.
