Condolences to Berlin

The Holy Father has sent a telegram of condolence to His Excellency, Heiner Koch, Archbishop of Berlin, expressing his concern for the victims of an attack that took place in one of the Christmas Markets in that city last night.

Telegram of Condolence of His Holiness, Pope Francis
for victims of an attack in the Berlin Christmas Markets

To His Excellency, the Most Reverend
Heiner Koch
Archbishop of Berlin

With profound emotion, the Holy Father, Pope Francis learned about the terrible attack of violence that took place in Berlin, in which - besides a considerable number of wounded - many people have met their deaths.  His Holiness expresses his participation in the mourning of family members, expressing his own compassion and assuring his closeness to them in their suffering.  In his prayer, he entrusts the dead to the mercy of God and beseeches him on behalf of those who have been wounded.

The Holy Father thanks those who are involved in emergency services and security for their assistance.  Pope Francis unites himself to all men of good will who are committed to making sure that the murderous madness of terrorism finds no place in our world.  In this sense, His Holiness implores from God our merciful Father the comfort of his consolation, protection and blessing.
