Greatly saddened to receive the news of the death of the venerable brother Cardinal Paulo Evaristo Arns, I wish to express to you, to your Auxiliary Bishops, to the clergy, the religious communities and the faithful of the Archdiocese of São Paulo as well as the family of the deceased my prayers for all of you as you mourn this fearless Pastor who throughout his ecclesial ministry bore authentic witness to the Gospel in the midst of his people, pointing out the path of truth in charity and service to the community, paying attention to those who are most underprivileged.
