At 10:00am today (in Rome), at the Vatican City State Tribunal, the second session of the penal proceedings involving Giuseppe Profiti and Massimo Spina, accused of embezzling funds from the Bambino Gesù Foundation was held.
The accused, both of whom were present, were accompanied by their respective lawyers: Antonello Blasi for Giuseppe Profiti, and Alfredo ottaviani for Massimo Spina.
The panel of judges is composed of Professor Paolo Papanti-Pelletier, who is serving as President; Professor Venerando Marano, Judge; and Professor Carlo Bonzano, Judge.
The Office of the Promotor of Justice was represented by Professor Gian Piero Milano and by the associate Promotor of Justice, Professor Roberto Zannotti.
Testimonies were presented by Gianantonio Bandera, Marco Bargellini, Paolo Mennini, Paolo Cipriani and Massimo Tulli. Tommaso Di Ruzza and Meriella Enoc were absent today.
During today's hearing, the court heard that a Note dated 31 August 2017 written by the President of the A.I.F. was deposited in the Chancery relating to the case of Doctor Tommaso Di Ruzza and a recollection dated 6 September 2017 provided by the President of the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, doctor Mariella Enoc, including attachments.
At the conclusion of today's hearings, the Judicial College established that the next sessions will be held on 19, 21 and 22 September, during which the testimonies of the accused and other witnesses will be heard.
