Condolences to Guatemala

The Cardinal Secretary of State, His Eminence, Pietro Parolin has sent a telegram of condolence on behalf of the Holy Father for the victims of eruption of the de Fuego volcano in Guatemala which has been taking place in the past few days.  The telegram was sent to the Apostolic Nuncio in Guatemala, His Excellency Nicolas Henry Marie Denis Thevenin.

The Holy Father, who is deeply grieved to learn the sad news of the violent eruption of the de Fuego volcano, which has resulted in numerous victims and caused much material damage, affecting a significant number of inhabitants in that area, is offering his prayers for the eternal rest of all those who have died and for those who are suffering as a result of this natural disaster.

I ask Your Excellency to pass on the sentiments of His Holiness, along with the expression of his prayers for their comfort to all the family members of those who are now grieved by the loss of their loved ones, as well as His spiritual closeness to those who have been wounded and to those who are working so tirelessly to assist them.  The Holy Father asks the Lord to shower over all of you the blessings of solidarity, spiritual serenity and Christian hope, as a sign of which he willingly imparts his Apostolic blessing.
