Programme for next month's visit to Bari

On Saturday, 7 July 2018, His Holiness, Pope Francis will pay a pastoral visit to the city of Bari.  This morning, the Holy See Press Centre published the itinerary for his one-day visit.

to Bari

Saturday, 7 July 2018
7:00am
Departure of the helicopter from the Vatican heliport.

8:15am
Arrival at the Christopher Columbus Square in Bari.

The Holy Father will be welcomed by His Excellency, Francesco Cacucci, Archbishop of Bari-Bitonto; the Honourable Michele Emiliano, President of the Region of Puglia; Doctor Marilisa Magno, Prefect of Bari; and the Honourable Antonio Decaro, Mayor of Bari.

The Holy Father will then travel by car to the Pontifical Basilica of Saint Nicolas; at the same time, the Patriarchs will make their way to the Basilica from their respective residences.

8:30am
In front of the Basilica of Saint Nicolas, the Holy Father will welcome the Patriarchs and greet each one individually; then, inside the Basilica, the Patriarchs will wait in front of the presbytery.

The Holy Father will enter last into the Basilica and will be greeted by members of the Community of Dominican Friars.

8:45am
The Holy Father and the Patriarchs will descend into the crypt of the Basilica where they will venerate the relics of Saint Nicolas and will light an oil lamp.

9:15am
The Holy Father and the Patriarchs will exit the Basilica of Saint Nicholas and will travel by coach to the Rotunda located on the coast of Bari.

9:30am
A prayer encounter will take place at the seacoast.

10:30am
At the conclusion of the common prayer encounter, the Holy Father and the Patriarchs will return by coach to the Basilica of Saint Nicolas.

11:00am
A closed-door dialogue will take place at the Basilica of Saint Nicolas.

1:30pm
The Holy Father and the Patriarchs will travel by coach to the Archbishop's residence for lunch.

3:30pm
At the Archbishop's residence, the Holy Father will bid farewell to the Patriarchs.

4:00pm
Before boarding the helicopter, the Holy Father will bid farewell to the local Authorities who had welcomed him earlier that morning.

5:15pm
Arrival at the Vatican heliport.
