An April joke?

If people who woke up in this locale this morning were wondering about whether God is in tune with popular culture or not, all they would have to do is look out the window.  Last night, as we were bedding down, there were signs of spring.  In truth, for the past number of weeks, we have been enjoying some temps well above the norms, and the fruit of this abnormality is that we've been lulled into believing that Spring sprang long before it normally would.  There have even been reported sightings of the first flowers of spring, and birdsong has been waking us for quite some time now.

This morning though, there is a trace of snow on the ground, and just enough of the white stuff has fallen though the night to gently coat the trees, transforming the landscape into an (almost) postcard-like fantasy land.  My first thought this morning was I wonder whether God is playing an April fools' joke on us?

In truth, there was a little nip in the air last night as I was walking, and I wondered even then whether the forecast of snow would come true.  The month of March began with a rather heavy snowfall (one of very few we have experienced during this exceptionally light winter) so it's somewhat surprising that we should have snow on the last day of the month as well.  After all, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, no?

Perhaps this is God's gentle way of teasing us, and of reminding us that even though we may think we can control all things, there are still some elements that are totally out of our hands.  All we can do is admire, and say thanks.
