Pope Francis has had a busy Saturday. First he released the names of the eight Cardinals who will form his inner cabinet (or so it seems), and later he met in private audience this morning with Mr. Nestor Osorio, a Columbian by birth who has just recently taken over as President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council and will act in this capacity for the upcoming year.
In terms of food security, poverty reduction, the promotion of youth employment, gender equality, our messages have the same objectives, Mr. Osorio said of his meeting this morning with the Holy Father.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for tomorrow's visit to the Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls, where the Holy Father will preside at the celebration of Mass beginning at 5:30pm local time.
The Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls is one of the four major Basilicae, designated as Papal Basilicae. It is confided to the pastoral care of Benedictine monks. On the occasion of the Papal visit tomorrow, Abbott Edmund Power, OSB highlighted the importance of this visit. Coming to Saint Paul's is an essential part of becoming Bishop of Rome because Peter and Paul are the patrons of Rome. They are the basis of the Church of Rome of which the Pope has been elected Bishop. The visit to Saint Paul's has not been billed as a taking possession but I suppose more as a recognition of the importance of Saint Paul.
Following the celebration of the Mass tomorrow, we will publish the text of the Holy Father's homily.
