This morning in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the President
of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency, Anthony Thomas Aquinas
Carmona, was received in audience by His Holiness, Pope Francis. Afterward, he met with His Eminence, Cardinal
Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, who was accompanied by His
Excellency, Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States.
During the cordial encounters, discussions focused on the
contribution which the Catholic Church has offered to the population of that
country, especially in the area of education, health and assistance for the
vulnerable and those most in need. Hope
was expressed that a fruitful collaboration might result in the Church’s
continued closeness to young people, especially in the fight against crime and
violence.
Finally, some other topics of great importance were also
touched upon, concerning the integral formation of the person and the
protection of the family.
