A telegram of condolence was sent today by His Eminence, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State of His Holiness, in the name of the Holy Father, to express his closeness to the victims of a shooting that took place yesterday inside the Cathedral of Campinas (Brazil) at the conclusion of the celebration of Holy Mass.

Telegram of Condolence

Reverend Father José Eduardo Meschiatti
Diocesan Administrator
of the Archdiocese of Campinas

Deeply concerned by the dramatic attack that took place during the celebration of the Holy Mass at the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Campinas, Pope Francis confides the victims to the mercy of God and ensures his solidarity and spiritual comfort to the families who lost their loved ones, as well as to the Archdiocesan community and all those involved in helping the wounded.  The Holy Father invites all of you to seek comfort and strength in the risen Jesus, and asks God to grant that hope not be overshadowed by this time of trial, preventing forgiveness and love to triumph over hatred and revenge.  To confirm his intent, Pope Francis accords to all of you the comfort of his Apostolic blessing.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State of His Holiness
