Two popes may soon be named Saints

Today, the Holy Father, Pope Francis met in private audience with His Eminence, Angelo Cardinal Amato, SDB, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.  During this meeting, the Pope authorized the Congregation to publish a number of decrees, including the approval of a miracle, attributed to the intercession of Blessed John Paul II (Karol Josef Woytyla), Roman Pontiff, born in Wadowice, Poland, May 18, 1920; and died in Rome on April 2, 2005.

The Holy Father has also approved the favorable votes received by the Cardinal Fathers and Bishops, members of the Ordinary Session of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, regarding the canonization of Blessed John XXIII (born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli) and has decided to convoke a Consistory which will examine also the approval of the Canonization of Blessed John Paul II (born Karol Josef Woytyla).

Once the Consistory is held, and if the Cardinal Fathers and Bishops agree, the Holy Father will then set the date for the Canonization of both of his predecessors.
