A Message to Paris

The Holy Father, Pope Francis provided a telephone interview to TV2000 in France in light of the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris last night.  Here is a transcript of the interview:

Interview granted by the Holy Father, Pope Francis
to TV2000

Question:
Holiness, what are you thinking, what sentiments are you experiencing in light of the carnage in Paris?

Pope Francis:
I am emotional and sad and I don't understand, but these things are difficult to understand, created by human beings; this is the reason why I am emotional and sad, and I am praying.  I am very close to the French people, so beloved; I am close to the families of the victims and praying for all of them.

Question:
You have spoken on many occasion about a third world war, fought in pieces ...

Pope Francis:
Ah yes, this is one of the pieces, but there is no justification for these things.

Question:
Above all, there can never be a religious justification ...

Pope Francis:
No, neither religious nor human.  This is not human.  That's the reason why I am so close to all thsoe who are suffering and to all of France, which I love so much.  Thank you so very much for your call.

This interview comes on the same day that His Holiness sent a note of condolence to the Archbishop of Paris:

The Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a Message - in the name of the Holy Father - to the Archbishop of Paris, His Eminence, Cardinal André Vingt-Trois following the terrorist attacks that took place last night in the French capital.

His Eminence, the Most Reverend
André Vingt-Trois
Archbishop of Paris

Having learned of the horrible terrorist attacks which have taken place in Paris and at the Stade de France, causing the death of numerous people and the wounding of many others,

His Holiness, Pope Francis is prayerfully united to the suffering of the families who are tested by this drama and by the suffering of the French people.  He calls upon God, the Father of mercies, to welcome the victims into the peace of his light and to grant comfort and hope to those who have been wounded as well as to their families.  He assures them, and all those who have helped them, of his spiritual closeness.

Once more, the Holy Father vigorously condemns violence, which can resolve nothing, and he asks the Lord to inspire thoughts of peace and solidarity in the hearts of all people and to grant an abundance of Blessings upon all the families who are suffering as well as all the people of France.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State of His Holiness
