Today the Holy Father, Pope Francis received in audience His Excellency, Mister Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, who subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State, accompanied by Monsignor Antoine Camilleri, Under-Secretary for Relations with States.
During the cordial discussions, appreciation was expressed for the good state of bilateral relations and the positive contribution of the Catholic Church in Lithuanian society throughout the centuries. In this context, mention was made of the recent beatification of Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis.
Themes of common interest were then examined, such as the prospects for the future development of European integration, the emigration of the young and the reception of migrants, and peace and security at regional and international level.
