Paul VI and Oscar Romero will soon be Saints

On Saturday, 19 May 2018, at 10:00am local time (4:00am EDT), inside the Consistory Hall at the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father, Pope Francis will preside over the celebration of the liturgical Hour of Terce (Mid-Morning Prayer) during which he will also conduct an Ordinary Public Consistory for the Canonization of:

  • Blessed Paul VI (born Giovanni Battista Montini), who served as Pope from 21 June 1963 until 6 August 1978;
  • Blessed Oscar Romero Galdámez, Archbishop of San Salvador, who was martyred on 24 March 1980;
  • Blessed Francesco Spinelli, a Diocesan priest who founded the Institute of Sisters Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament;
  • Blessed Vincenzo Romano, a Diocesan priest;
  • Blessed Maria Caterina Kasper, a virgin who founded the Institute of Poor Servants of Jesus Christ; and
  • Blessed Mazaria Ignazia of Saint Teresa of Jesus (born Nazaria Ignazia March Mesa), a virgin who founded the Congregation of Missionary Sisters Crusaders of the Church.

This is the final stage before the dates are set for their respective Canonizations.
