Pope's visit to mark the beginning of May

This afternoon, to mark the Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker, the Holy Father, Pope Francis went on pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Divine Love to begin the Month of Mary.  Inside the old Shrine, before the image of Our Lady of the Miracle, the Pope recited the rosary, praying in particular for peace in Syria and throughout the entire world.

Upon his arrival, at 4:45pm local time (10:45am EDT), the Holy Father was greeted by Archbishop Angelo De Donatis, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome; by the Auxiliary Bishop for the Southern Sector, His Excellency, Paolo Lojudice; by Monsignor Enrico Feroci, President of the Oblates, Children of Divine Love; by Father Luciano Chagas Costa, Rector of the Shrine; by Father Vincent Pallippadan, Rector of the Seminary of Our Lady of Divine Love; and by the Pastor, Father John Harry Bermeo Sanchez.

Following a few brief words of welcome offered to the faithful who were awaiting his arrival, the Pope made his way to the old Shrine, accompanied by the music of the Mater Divini Amoris polifonic choir who were chanting Tu es Petrus.

After the recitation of the Marian prayer, in the side chapels, Pope Francis greeted the residents of the Divino Amore retirement home, which houses 24 elderly persons, and the mothers and children who are currently resident in the Mater Divini Amoris family home, which is administrated by the Congregation of the Children of Divine Love.

At the conclusion of his visit, after reciting the Hail Mary and having imparted his blessing to the faithful who were present in the courtyard outside, at 6:00pm, the Holy Father returned to the Vatican.

Brief greetings offered by the Holy Father
prior to the recitation of the rosary

I thank you for your welcome.  You are so festive!  And I ask you to follow the prayer from here.  Let us pray together.  I will see you again afterwards.  But pray, eh?  Thank you for your welcome!

Thank you very much!  Now, I want to give you my blessing.  Together, let us pray to Our Lady:

Hail Mary ...

Blessing ...

Please, don't forget to pray for me.
