The medeival capital

Before Madrid became the capital of the united country of Spain, there was another capital, and the locals in Toledo are still proud of the fact that they live in the first capital of the united Spain.

Still today Toledo has the feel of a medeival city.

Its streets are narrow and cobblestoned.

Some of its doorways betray another time in history when riders on horseback would arrive and need to announce their presence by knocking.

Even in this city of yesterday, there is room for modernity, including a cellist who sat outside the entrance to the cathedral, offering his renditions of classical favorites.  The stone walls created a perfect 'concert hall' even in the alleyway outside the church.
