On Tuesday evening, CBC aired the second part of the interview conducted with His Eminence, Marc Cardinal Ouellet, PSS. The video of this second part is now available on the CBC website. The file is available below too.
In this interview, Peter Mansbridge attempts a presentation of the person of the Canadian Cardinal who has most recently served as Prefect of the Congregation of Bishops. At times, his questions are very pointed, but Cardinal Ouellet is no stranger to the world of the media, so he craftily presents himself as willing to serve, yet being very careful not to be perceived as though he is campaigning for the job. In fact, when asked Would you like to be Pope?, Cardinal Ouellet responds jovially by asking whether Mr. Mansbridge knows the Roman saying: He who enters the Conclave as Pope comes back out as Cardinal.
The Cardinals continue their preparatory Congregations today, even as the physical preparation of the Sistine Chapel has begun, a sign that the beginning of the Conclave is not far away.
