A visit to the Vatican Paediatric Dispensary

This morning at 11:45am, the Holy Father, Pope Francis visited the premises of the Santa Marta Dispensary in the Vatican.  When he arrived, His Holiness was greeted by the Director of the Dispensary, Sister Antoinette Collacchi, a member of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul; by Bishop Konrad Krajewski, Almoner of His Holiness and President of the Santa Marta Dispensary Foundation, and other religious sisters and volunteers.

At 12:15pm today, in the Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, the Holy Father, Pope Francis met with a number of families who are assisted by the Santa Marta Paediatric Dispensary, as well as volunteers who help in various ways at that dispensary.

Following the greetings spoken by Sister Antoinette Collacchi, FdC, the Director of the Dispensary, and the testimony provided by one of the mothers, the children who were present gave the Holy Father a small gift in celebration of his birthday which happens to be next Tuesday, December 17.  Then, before sharing a meal with those who were present for this Christmas-time visit, the Pope spoke a few words of gratitude to those who were present.

In celebration of Christmas, the Papal Almoner, Bishop Konrad Krajewski will distribute a special gift on behalf of His Holiness to the poor who he met this morning at the Paul VI Hall.  Two thousand small envelopes will be distributed by the Mother Teresa's Sisters of Charity and the volunteers who work with them in the places where they offer meals and other services to the poor of Rome.

Each envelope has already been imprinted with a Vatican Christmas stamp, so that it can be used to send greetings to friends or family members.  contains a copy of the special card which contains a picture of the Christmas image on one side, and the signature of the Holy Father on the other, and day passes which are valid for use on the Rome subway system.  The Directorate of the Municipal Transportation Agency of Rome offered 4000 of these day passes, and the stamps are furnished courtesy of the Vatican Post Office.
