Condolences to Barcelona

This morning, the Vatican Press Office released the text of the telegram which was sent today by the Holy Father to the Archbishop of Barcelona, Spain.  Cardinal Ricardo Maria Carles Gordo, Titular Archbishop of Santa Maria Consolatrice al Tiburtino.

for the death of Cardinal Ricardo Maria Carles Gordo

His Eminence, Lluis Cardinal Martinez Sistash
Archbishop of Barcelona

Having been informed of the sad news of the death of the beloved Cardinal Ricardo Maria Carles Gordo, Archbishop emeritus of Barcelona, I offer fervent prayers for eternal rest for him who exercised his Episcopal ministry with diligent apostolic solicitude, first as the Bishop of Tortosa and then having been called to your beloved Archdiocese of Barcelona.  He surrendering constantly to the task of evangelizing with wisdom and generosity, and tirelessly undertaking many initiatives, always in proximity to the priests, as well as to those in religious life and to seminarians, to whom he dedicated special attention.

Mindful of the great service rendered by him for the sake of the Church, I express my condolences to Your Eminence, to your Auxiliary Bishop, to the presbyters, the members of religious communities and to the faithful of that particular Church, as well as to those who enjoyed the closeness of friendship with the deceased Cardinal.  I beg your assistance in also conveying these sentiments to the Cardinal's family.  I willingly impart to you all, the comfort of my Apostolic Blessing, as a sign of hope in the Risen Christ.
