This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Joliette (Quebec, Canada) presented by His Excellency, Gilles Lussier, according to the norms of Canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law.
The Pope has named His Excellency, Raymond Poisson, who until now has been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Saint-Jérôme (Quebec) as the new Bishop of Joliette.
The Most Reverend Raymond Poisson was born on April 30, 1958 in Saint-Hyacinthe (Quebec). He competed studies at the Seminary of the Most Holy Trinity in Saint-Bruno and at the André Grasset College before being ordained a priest on December 9, 1983 for the Diocese of Saint-Jean-Longeuil (Quebec). He holds a Bachelor's degree obtained at the Faculty of Theology of Montreal. From 1987 to 1989, he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University and obtained a Doctorate in Theology.
Following his studies in Rome, Bishop Poisson was named the private secretary to the then Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longeuil, His Excellency, Bernard Hubert, and also served as the Associate Pastor and then Pastor of the parish of Saint-Georges in the episcopal city of that Diocese. From 1995 to 2007, he served as Pastor of the co-cathedral of Saint Anthony of Padua. Finally, he was named pastor of the Pastoral cluster of Sainte-Marguerite-d'Youville and Rector of the Basilica of Saint-Anne di Varennes.
He was named Auxiliary Bishop of Saint-Jérôme on May 1, 2012 and received episcopal Ordination on June 15 of that year.
