Mother Teresa will soon be a saint

This morning, the Vatican Press Centre announced that there will be an Ordinary Public Consistory held next Tuesday (March 15) at 10:00am local time, in the Consistory Hall at the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

The Holy Father, Pope Francis will preside at the celebration of the liturgical Hour of Terse (Mid-morning Prayer) and the meeting will continue with decisions being made about the dates for the Canonization of five new Saints:

  • Giuseppe Sánchez del Río;
  • Stanislao di Gesù Maria (born, Giovanni Papczyński);
  • Giuseppe Gabrielle del Rosario Brochero;
  • Maria Elisabetta Hesselblad; and
  • Teresa of Calcutta (born, Agnese Gonxha Bojaxhiu).
The foundress of the Missionaries of Charity was born in Skopje (Albania) on 26 August 1910 and died in Calcutta (India) on 5 September 1997.  Blessed Teresa of Calcutta was Beatified by Saint John Paul II on 19 October 2003.  A second miracle attributed to her intercession was officially recognized by Pope Francis on 17 December 2015, clearing the way for her approaching Canonization.
